As part of the national Building Better Opportunities programme, Derventio Housing Trust is working with people in Derbyshire who face multiple challenges and barriers in their life.
The programme brings opportunities to people who are furthest from the labour market - opening up doors for training, volunteering and employment in their local area.
We are part of the D2N2 (Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire) programme. We deliver the support in Amber Valley, Derbyshire Dales, Erewash and High Peak in Derbyshire. We aim to support 70 people over the three year programme.
The programme will support people who are not working and face challenges in two or more of these areas:
If you know someone who you think may be eligible, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or ring Julie on 07809 904 790.
A Personal Navigator spends time with each person helping them to address and resolve their complex issues, and to talk about what's preventing them from getting a job. The Navigator will provide personalised advice and support.
"The programme has given me lots of confidence in myself on the inside and out."
We will help people to access other services that could help them - for example a personal budget, specialist training in healthy living, money matters, housing and employability.
"It has helped me a lot with my mental illness and encouraged me to go for counselling which I have put off for years."
Each person can apply for the Discretionary Fund for things that will help them tackle their barriers to moving forward. They can spend it on things like travel costs, training, equipment or clothes.
We have links with a wide range of local employers who can offer people training, work placements, volunteering or help to secure a job.
"I have tried new things, started volunteering. I'm gaining work experience, I've gained my food hygiene certificate and met new people."
Opportunity and Change is part of Building Better Opportunities, a national programme funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund.
The partnership across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire is led by Framework Housing Association .
